A special nature reserve: Hulshorsterzand sand drift
The Hulshorsterzand is a unique and extreme nature reserve.
You’ll find large expanses of drifting sand in a wooded setting, where you can enjoy a beautiful, signposted walk. By removing previously planted trees, Natuurmonumenten has given the sand free rein to drift again. This is also known as “smoking.” And did you know that the temperature difference between day and night can be as much as forty degrees Celsius? On sunny days, it can get very hot, so bring plenty of water and wear sturdy shoes. This local climate also naturally leads to remarkable animals and plants. The antlion, nightjar, tawny pipit, lichens, and mushrooms are found in few other places in the Netherlands.
To explore the area, you could take a beautiful walking or cycling route!
