The monument you see is a large boulder with a plaque.
The stone was placed without ceremony in December 2000 by Mr. Edouard Mari Herminius von Baumhauer (1931-2013), the son of Mr. Edouard Henri von Baumhauer, who founded Het Verscholen Dorp in 1943.
He wanted to honor everyone who had worked to maintain the hiding camp. In a notice dated December 19, 2000, he wrote, among other things: “Their example of initiative, dedication and courageous perseverance has inspired and deeply moved many people even now. I believe I have acted in their spirit by placing a ‘Mark’ so that their example may continue to appeal to future generations in the long future.”

The plaque features the symbols of Yad Vashem and the Resistance Commemoration Cross. The plaque lists the names of people who worked during the occupation years for the hiding camp at the Pas Opweg in Vierhouten. The text ends with the Latin motto: Praeterea sperno, futura spero – I now leave the past behind, and hope for a future in peace.
